Donbas Media Forum 2019 Held in Kharkiv
On 5-6 September 2019, the V Donbas Media Forum 2019 was held in Kharkiv. This year, the Forum was traditionally organised by the Donetsk Institute of Information together with the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.
“Time to Choose Standards of Journalism” was chosen as the umbrella topic of the event.
“The war in eastern Ukraine is going on, and every journalist, activist, and public figure has to understand that they are directly involved in shaping the trust of people in the Donbas, who are most vulnerable to suggestive techniques and propaganda methods. Therefore, uniting the media community around standards of journalism is a challenging process, which is crucial to our country,” said Viktor Lytvinov, Head of the Sector for Information Reintegration of Crimea and the Donbas of the Ministry.
In the course of the two days, visitors to the Forum were able to attend a number of workshops on a variety of topics, including “Reality Journalism on TV: A New Approach That Restores People’s Trust in Media”, “Developing Regional YouTube Channels for Journalists and Media”, and “Subtle Tricks: How We Are Manipulated during Elections”.
Workshops and discussions took place in seven dedicated halls of Kharkiv Palace Hotel.
More than 8,000 copies of books printed on the Ministry’s orders were distributed for free at the Forum.
Pursuant to Decree No. 829 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 2 September 2019, the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine shall be reorganised into the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport of Ukraine.
