MIP: "Mustafa. The Way of the Leader," Book by Gulnara Bekirova, Presented in Kyiv
On 12 May 2019, a book by the historian Gulnara Bekirova, “Mustafa. The Way of the Leader,” published with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, was presented in Kyiv at a commemoration of the victims of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people.
“The book about the way of Mustafa Dzhemilev is, in fact, a guide to the fight for Crimea. After the 1944 deportation, the Crimean Tatars returned to Crimea because of their fight and national movement. The same is true for today: Crimea will not return of its own accord—we have to win over it. In reading this book, these things come to be realised! This is why the Ministry supported the publication of this book,” the First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, was quoted as saying.
Gulnara Bekirova, who wrote the book, stressed that Mustafa Dzhemilev is a real symbol of the invincibility of the Crimean Tatar people.
“He underwent deportation, the first gruesome years of exile, and then started a years-long fight for the return of the Crimean Tatar people to their historical homeland. Today, Mustafa-aga is a recognised moral authority of democratic Ukraine. He is the leader of his people and, like earlier, fights for his homeland—Crimea,” Ms Bekirova said.
The event featured a play dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of the deportation; a photo exhibition of today’s Crimean Tatar political prisoners; and a fair of souvenirs with Crimean Tatar symbols, books, children’s self-made crafts, and pictures. The money earned will be handed over to the families of the political prisoners.
