MIP: Events for Crimean Tatar Genocide Victims Commemoration Day Presented

On 16 May 2019, a press conference “Marking the 75th Anniversary of the 1944 Deportation--the Genocide of the Crimean Tatar People” was held at the press centre of the Ukrinform news agency.

Emine Dzhaparova, First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, and Alim Aliiev, programming director at Crimean House, a state company, presented the plan of commemoration events.

May 17th, 2:30pm: A press tour of locations of the arts project “The Stolen Crimea. The History of Deportation,” dedicated to commemorating the victims of the 1944 genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. The tour starts at Pavilion 1 of the Expocentre Ukraine exhibition centre (1 Akademika Hlushkova Ave). Accreditation for the media is available via [email protected] or (044) 200 41 23.

The official part begins on May 17th, at 6:00pm, with the premiere of the documentary film “1944,” produced with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine. Venue: ArtHall D12, 12 Desiatynna St. Accreditation for the media is available via +38 (050) 225 85 62.

May 18th, noon: A theatrical performance involving the reconstruction of a wagon in which Crimean Tatars were deported takes place at the Central Railway Station in Kyiv.

In addition, a moment of silence for the victims of the Crimean Tatar genocide is to be held at noon on the same day.

May 18th, 2:00pm: An arts project “The Stolen Crimea. The History of Deportation” opens at Expocentre Ukraine. At 3:00pm, a requiem evening begins at the same venue with the participation of the senior officials of Ukraine, which includes speeches by officials and a concert. May 18th, 4:30pm: A car rally begins from the square in front of Expocentre Ukraine to Maidan Nezalezhnosti, where a mourning for the victims of the Crimean Tatar genocide begins at 6:00pm.

Mat 18th, 10:00pm: A 3D-mapping thematic video projection is to be shown at Expocentre Ukraine.

In addition, commemoration events are also planned in other Ukrainian cities, including Kherson, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Lviv, and Mykolaiv, and abroad, in particular in Turkey.
