MIP: First Open Workshop "Europe Begins with You" Held in Kyiv
On 15 May 2019, an All-Ukrainian open workshop “Europe Begins with You,” related to the celebration of Europe Day, which was organised with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, was held for the first time at the press centre of the Ukrinform news agency.
The event was broadcast live, with students of 8th to 11th grades from more than 2,000 Ukrainian schools participating.
“Today the EU is a space where people live in democracy, with respect for the rule of law and individual rights. This is what distinguishes this space from any other. Therefore, it is the matter of principal importance for us to return home, to the European family, and be equal among the equals,” said Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
The First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, added that European values meant not only the rule of law and respect for human rights but also purely daily things, such as attitude towards environment, education, and one’s own future in general.
“The main difference between our and European educational systems is that the latter is completely free from cheating. You have to understand that the knowledge you get is your investment in your own future,” Ms Dzhaparova was quoted as saying.
The workshop was hosted by Michael Shchur, a Ukrainian TV journalist, actor, screenwriter, and musician.
The event was designed to promote European democratic values and European integration among students; shape the “European conscience” and the feeling of “European citizenship”; and realising by young Ukrainians their belonging to Europe.
It was organised by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Association4U, an EU project, and Google Ukraine.
