MIP: Mykola Semena’s Book “A Crimean Report” Translated into English
“A Crimean Report” (the chronicles of the 2014-2016 occupation of Crimea), a book by Mykola Semena, a Ukrainian journalist illegally sentenced in Russia-occupied Crimea, has been published in English with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.
“Translating a collection of articles by the famous Crimean journalist Mykola Semena into English was my personal duty, which I undertook before him and Mustafa Dzhemilev at the presentation of the book last year. It was a matter of principle for me to have this book, which will allow the world to find out about the occupation of Crimea and its consequences, published this year. This is yet another book among others which the Ministry has supported, which has the goal of returning Crimea,” the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Yuriy Stets, was quoted as saying.
The English version of Mykola Semena’s book is planned to be presented in early 2019.
On 22 September 2017, the Kremlin-controlled Zaliznychnyi district court of Simferopol sentenced Mykola Semena, a contributor to “Radio Liberty” and “Krym.Realii”, to two and a half years of suspended imprisonment with a three-year probation period, also prohibiting him to seek public office. Later on, the court commuted the sentence with regard to additional punishment, cutting the period of the prohibition to seek public office from three years to two.
On 21 December 2017, Mykola Semena’s book “A Crimean Report” (the chronicles of the 2014-2016 occupation of Crimea), published with the Ministry’s support, was presented at Crimean House.
