Dzhaparova Meets with Participants of MAS Summer School Crimean Tatar Humanities Section

On 29 August 2018, a discussion meeting, organised with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, was held with participants of the Crimean Tatar Humanities section of the Minor Academy of Sciences (MAS) Summer School.

The First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, and the Adviser to the Minister of Culture of Ukraine on Crimea, Esma Adzhieva, discussed with 12 pupils (some of whom had come from occupied Crimea) their researches on the history and culture of the Crimean Tatar people.

Ms Dzhaparova told the pupils about MIP’s activity in the field of information reintegration of Crimea and wished them good luck in their researches.

“Last year, the Crimean Tatar Humanities section of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was launched -- for the first time in the history of our country. This is yet another sign of change in policy towards the indigenous people of Crimea, the Crimean Tatars. Developing the people’s intellectual capabilities and, as a result, asserting its identity is impossible for Crimean Tatars under occupation. Instead, one of the tasks before Ukrainian society and state is supporting its citizens in occupied territories. This is what such projects are about – maintaining physical bonds, which Russia actively seeks to disrupt,” the First Deputy Minister was quoted as saying.

The researches of MAS’s participants cover various topics, ranging from traditions and customs of Crimean Tatars, the history of Crimean Tatar literature, traditional choreography and musical instruments of the Crimean Khanate, Crimean Tatar cuisine, interior design, etc.

The Crimean Tatar Humanities section was launched within MAS in December 2017. It encompasses teens and the youth from all over Ukraine, whatever the nationality, in order to deepen knowledge and improve skills in the field of the Crimean Tatar language, culture, history and science.
