MIP Reports on Results of Its Activity in 2017

On 20 December 2017, the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine presented the analysis of its work in 2017 during the press conference at the news agency Ukrinform.

Yuriy Stets, the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine:

“I would like to begin the report on MIP’s activity in this year with the great ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped us. First of all, I mean the specialized committees of the Verkhovna Rada, the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy and the Committee on National Security and Defence. Recently we have begun closely working with the Committee on European Integration,” the Minister noted.

He also thanked the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection, the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, enterprises belonging to the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine (Ukrinform, the Multimedia Platform, the channel UATV), and the Public Broadcasting, for cooperation.

In her turn, Adviser to the Minister Yulia Kazdobina, reporting on information reintegration of Crimea and Donbas, mentioned a number of social campaigns on Crimea, which were carried out throughout the year, as well as the films Cyborgs and Their Prayer, presented by MIP.

“MIP has drafted three strategic documents: on reintegration of Crimea, particular areas in Eastern Ukraine and the Strategy of the State Policy for Public Diplomacy of the Crimean Tatar People. Also this year, MIP published some periodicals: the analytical magazine Crimea Inform (which is distributed abroad), the monthly publication Donbas Inform,” Kazdobina said.

Deputy Minister Dmytro Zolotukhin reported on his area of activity: “Throughtout this year, we have been implementing the Doctrine of Information Security of Ukraine, which had been drawn up earlier by our Expert Council, approved by the CNSD and signed by the President of Ukraine. Within the framework of the Doctrine, we are establishing strategic communications with NATO, and are carrying out the reform of education to introduce the new specialty ‘Communication Studies’ together with the Ministry of Education. All this is to be as open to the public as possible, to provide information quickly and professionally, by setting up a clear system and the cycle of actions.”

Artem Bidenko, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, spoke about what has been done regarding promotion of Ukraine in the world. “For MIP, this year became the year of collecting and preparing a great deal of information for foreign audiences. The other day, we launched a video clip about Ukraine on CNN. Also, a number of English-language publications were printed out, the film Djakyju was released, and we are at the final stage of drawing up Ukraine’s brand-book.”

He recalled that a special interagency commission on promoting Ukraine in the world had been established in order to achieve results in that field.

Please be reminded that the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine informs the population about its activity on its official website on a daily basis and prints out reports on its work in Ukrainian and English, which it distributes at meetings with representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine.

 

MIP’s key achievements of 2017:

- Two TV towers to restore Ukrainian broadcasting in Luhansk and Kherson Regions (Chonhar, Bakhmutivka) have been constructed

- UATV channel has become available in 63 cable networks all over the world

- 16 social campaigns have been carried out, seven of which in support of the Government’s reforms

- Strategies of information reintegration of Crimea and particular areas in Eastern Ukraine, and of the state policy for pubic diplomacy of the Crimean Tatar people have been drawn up

- In the field of information reintegration of Donbas and Crimea, six national communication campaigns and two international public events have been held, two feature films (Their Prayer, Cyborgs) have been presented, the information and analytical magazine Crimea Inform and the newspaper Donbas Inform have been printed.
