MIP: Crisis Communications Important to Ensure Critical Infrastructure Security
On October 17, Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Dmytro Zolotukhin participated in the command post exercise on critical electric infrastructure security and responding to the threats of the disruption of its stable functioning.
In his report, Zolotukhin stressed that the effective crisis communication system was becoming vital for ensuring the security of critical infrastructure facilities.
“The recent developments have shown that it is within the issue of informing the population and media relations where one of the most important aspects of the activity of state structure in times of crisis often lies.
Even the effects of accidents and cyber attacks are mitigated quiet fast. But the information trail in the media environment does not disappear anywhere and continues harming the country’s reputation,” he explained.
The Deputy Minister noted that in the course of the exercise, MIP together with counterparts from NATO, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining, and state energy enterprises was handling issues pertinent to the communication aspects of emergency management.
The event was attended by officials from NATO, staff of the Council of National Security and Defence, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, the State Emergency Service, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police and the National Guard.
It should be noted that the command post exercise on critical electric infrastructure security and responding to the threats of the disruption of its stable functioning are being carried out as part of the implementation of the Annual National Program under the auspices of the Ukraine – NATO Commission for the year 2017.
