Public Council under MIP: We Will Propose Our Vision of Information and Cybersecurity of Ukraine

On 29 September 2017, a round table talk of the Public Council under the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine discussed the issues of information and cybersecurity of Ukraine as a key component in fending off external aggression.

In the course of the event, MIP’s State Secretary Artem Bidenko noted that freedom of speech was the main among the fundamental ones.

“But now we are at war, at a state of persistent provocations, permanent crises instigated by the enemy, and we cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that freedom of speech is being used as a weapon against Ukraine,” said Bidenko.

Chairman of the Public Council Mykhailo Vasianovych sais that “[a]s the Public Council we will analyse the results of the round table thoroughly, then we will hold further meetings, this time within the framework of the Public Council, and follow them up by submitting to the Ministry of Information Policy our proposals and vision of the main problems to be taken into account in the regulations and the overall work.”

Pavlo Zhovnirenko, Chair of the Board at the Centre for Strategic Studies, said: “The main pillars of Russian propaganda are foolishness and falsehood, thus one of the key areas is debunking falsehoods, another is disseminating the truth, and the essential thing is humour.”

Vadym Triukhan, Chairman of the Committee on Information Security of the Public Council under the Ministry of Information Security, said: “What we count on is today we will have a professional and thorough discussion, which will usher in a number of other, perhaps narrower and more specific discussions within such round table talks, workshops, and so on, and that they will as a result bring about initiatives regarding how the State should work with the expert community, with us in the field of information and cybersecurity.”
