MIP, Go Global Present New Project to Encourage Studying Foreign Languages
On September 7, the communication campaign of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine “Study English” was presented at the Ukrinform news agency.
Artem Bidenko, State Secretary of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, said in the course of the event that it was a campaign to encourage studying English and other languages, which was due to begin since October this year.
“The advertising has to be not only about image but also have some clear message. So, in order to encourage Ukrainians to study, in particular, English, we have chosen traditional heroes for our public service ad – famous Ukrainian writes such as Lesia Ukrainka or Hryhorii Skovoroda, as well as mass pop culture heroes referring to Harry Potter and ‘Star Wars’.”
He added the campaign was being implemented in partnership with the Go Global initiative.
Mystafa Nayyem, people’s deputy of Ukraine, who co-founded the Go Global initiative aimed at promoting and studying foreign languages in Ukraine, says, “Our aim is to make studying English and other foreign languages a sort of fashion trend among Ukrainians, since knowing a foreign language should be not an aim but a tool for all opportunities the world opens up for us.
“That is why the Go Global initiative supports the communication campaign ‘Study English’ and joins the distribution of the campaign’s materials.”
Please be reminded that the campaign provides for distributing lightboxes, video clips, in particular at airports, trains, and on television. Also, the Go Global initiative has involved itself in the distribution of the campaign’s materials.
Upon the Go Global’s initiative, the year 2016 was declared the Year of the English Language in Ukraine. Researches by TNS have revealed that it is in 2016 that 34 percent of Ukrainians began studying English.
The projected scope is 70 percent of the target audience.
