Falsifying History among the Tools Russia Employing in Its Aggressive Propaganda, Says Kazdobina
On 1 August 2017, a press conference on the results of the celebration of the first Day of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar Friendship and Solidarity in Ichnia Raion of Chernihiv Oblast as well as on the prospect of celebrating the 360th anniversary of the Battle of Konotop was held at the Ukrinform news agency, organized by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.
Yulia Kazdobina, Adviser to the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, stressed the importance of the celebration of holidays which would symbolize the unity of the Ukrainians and the Crimean Tatars.
"Falsifying history is among the tools Russia is employing in its aggressive propaganda.
"Therefore, promoting historic events silenced by Russian historiography will help dispel myths and lies and consolidate the society around the idea of the unity of the Ukrainian and the Crimean Tatar peoples."
Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, said, "The importance of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar common history has long been understood, but at the same time it could not be shown by concrete deeds due to the fact that Russian historiography has for centuries hammered into our heads its own understanding of the events that took place in the vast area where our peoples used to live."
Therefore, in his opinion, the initiative to celebrate the first Day of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar Friendship is decisive since it was a "bottom-up" one, thus demonstrating the victory over Russian myths.
The Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people also believes it is necessary to set up an organizing committee at the state level for a dignified celebration of the future 360th anniversary of the Battle of Konotop, where the armies of hetman Ivan Vyhovsky and Crimean khan Mehmed IV Giray joined in order to vanquish the Russians.
The event was attended by Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, people's deputy of Ukraine; Hryhorii Herasymenko, head of the Ichnia Raion council; Riza Shevkiev, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people; Yulia Kazdobina, Adviser to the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine on Crimea; Vasyl Mysan, head of the Krupychpole rural council; Andrii Ivanets, coordinator of Tavria Humanitarian Platform, Candidate of Historical Sciences.
On 26 July 2017, the Day of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar Friendship and Solidarity was celebrated for the first time in Ichnia Raion. The participants included members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, representatives of the local and municipal authorities of Ichnia Raion, the Crimean community, public activists from Kyiv and Chernihiv Oblast.
