TIME OF UNITY AND SELF-KNOWLEDGE. IN CHERNIHIV REGION, THE DAY OF UKRAINIAN AND CRIMEAN TATAR FRIENDSHIP CELEBRATED FOR THE FIRST TIME

On August 1, at 11:00 a.m., a press conference titled "Results of the First Day of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar Friendship and Solidarity in Ichnia Raion of Chernihiv Oblast and on the Prospects for Celebrating the 360th Anniversary of the Battle of Konotop" takes place (Hall 2).

Organized by: Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.

Participants: Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, people's deputy of Ukraine; Hryhorii Herasymenko, head of the Ichnia Raion council; Riza Shevkiev, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people; Yulia Kazdobina, Adviser to the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine on Crimea; Vasyl Mysan, head of the Krupychpole rural council; Andrii Ivanets, coordinator of Tavria Humanitarian Platform, Candidate of Historical Sciences.

Additional Information. On 26 July 2017, the Day of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar Friendship and Solidarity was celebrated for the first time in Ichnia Raion. The participants included members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, representatives of the local and municipal authorities of Ichnia Raion, the Crimean community, public activists from Kyiv and Chernihiv Oblast.

During the event, the Crimeans were met in the raion council and the raion state administration. A public awareness campaign was held for the residents of the raion about the history and modern life of the Crimean Tatar people.

In the village Krupychpole, a memorial was mounted at the place where the armies of hetman Ivan Vyhovsky and Crimean khan Mehmed IV Giray (nicknamed Sofu) met before the Battle of Konotop in 1659.

The participants of the event also visited Sokolynyi Hutir, where they were warmly welcomed by the Cossacks, the Tarnowski Castle and other places of interest of Ichnia Raion.
