MIP discussed the Information Reintegration Strategy of Crimea with the Mejlis and representatives of the Crimean Tatar media

9 March, in the framework of the Information Reintegration Strategy of Crimea, Advisor to the Minister Yulia Kazdobina held a number of consultations with representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatar media representatives.

During the meeting, Yulia Kazdobina stressed that the Strategy should be a coordinating mechanism for cooperation between government and civil society. "Ukraine today is moving away from the Soviet tradition of informing and proceeds to the building of strategic communications system. This means that the government must listen to civil society and to cooperate with it in making and implementing decisions", - said Advisor.

The Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov noted that there should be a clear understanding of what constitutes the state information policy. In his opinion, it is important to understand that the powers of the state and its ability to influence the public information space is often limited. The meeting participants agreed that the lack of a clearly formed state policy towards the Crimean issue in some areas presents a significant challenge for the information policy.

Speaking about the objectives of the Strategy, Yulia Kazdobina stressed that elaboration of mechanisms on the Strategy implementation, as well as the availability of appropriate human and financial resources, is a pre-condition for the document to not become declarative.

Among other things, the participants discussed possible ways of cooperation between the government and the media to increase the presence of the Crimea topic in the public information space. Deputy General Director of "ATR" channel Aider Muzhdabaev raised the issue of the need for financial support of the Crimean regional media because they are important channels for conveying information to the occupied territories.

Following the meeting, the participants agreed to continue the dialogue in the process of development and implementation of the Strategy.
