The Government supported the initiative to recognize 26th February as the Day of the Crimeans' resistance to the Russian aggression
Today, 6 July 2016, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the draft decree of the President of Ukraine "On the Day of the Crimeans' resistance to the Russian aggression" has been unanimously supported. It aims to commemorate the patriotism and courage of inhabitants of the Crimea in the fight against the aggression of the Russian Federation.
According to the document, in order to implement this goal, it is offered to celebrate the Day of resistance on 26th February every year, because on this day on the call of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatars thousands of inhabitants of the Crimea come to the house of the Crimean Parliament in defense of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and did not allow Crimean deputies to vote for the separatist solutions.
Emine Dzhaparova, First Deputy Minister of information policy of Ukraine, during the meeting, noted that MIP has initiated the recognition of 26 February as the day of resistance in support of the Ukrainians in the Crimea who remain patriots of their country.
"26 February 2014, a mass rally on the call of the Majlis took place, and which has not allowed the Parliament to vote for separatist solutions; it has changed the course of the seizure of the peninsula. On 27 February, Russia had to use force to capture the peninsula. This day has not allowed Russia to prove to the world that the residents of Crimea support the Russian Crimea. It is important to celebrate the Day of resistance for the consolidation of the Ukrainians because Russian propaganda proves that everyone in Crimea is happy to live in a "home harbor" and fully supported the "referendum". Therefore it is necessary to talk about the resistance because of which the Ukrainians in Crimea today are subject to a judgment, killings, banning the Majlis and meetings of the Crimean Tatars, etc.", - said Dzhaparova.
Adoption of the draft presidential decree "On the Day of the Crimeans' resistance to the Russian aggression" will introduce the day of 26 February to the official calendar and will be another reason for the wide media coverage of the Crimea topic.
